Coverage begins in September 1915, with the Phillies becoming National League Champions. Thereafter, the team’s greatest victories are all included, thus creating a fantastic reportage history for any diehard Phillies fan.
Included in the coverage are reports of MVP Chuck Klein’s exploits during the ‘30s, as well as the Whiz Kids era during the early 50s, in which the likes of future Hall of Famers Richie Ashburn and Robin Roberts grab the limelight.
Three straight division titles from 1976 to 1978 also appear, along with the exploits of Greg Luzinski, Mike Schmidt and Pete Rose in securing the Phillies’ first World Series. Schmidt goes on to get plenty of attention throughout the decade, including his 500th homerun in ‘87 and his retirement in ‘89. More recently, the World Series triumph in 2008, in which Phillies’ pitcher Cole Hamels won MVP, is obviously in there, too.
As for the book itself, it measures in at an impressive 12.5 x 15 inches, bound in a burnt sienna cover. Made with an antique-style finish, the cover beautifully contrasts the book’s originally reported black and white content, for the ultimate Philadelphia Phillies memorabilia.
