This newspaper book on the Baltimore Ravens begins in February 1996 with the team’s move to Baltimore. One month later the side assumed its name the Ravens, and from there on out, the team’s biggest successes all feature. Early victories during the late ‘90s against the likes of New Orleans Saints, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants are all included, before things really kick start in the early 2000s.
In 2000, the Ravens won their first Super Bowl. With its rock solid defence, the team swept aside both the Denver Broncos in their first ever playoff game and the Tennessee Titans, before progressing to Super Bowl XXXV. Here they dispatched of the New York Giants 34-7, with linebacker Ray Lewis earning MVP.
More recently, the seven playoff appearances starting in 2001 all feature. Although none ultimately resulted in Super Bowl success, there were still highlights. In 2003 for example, these included notable victories over the 49ers and the Bengals, during a season in which Jamal and Ray Lewis were named NFL Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. Later victories including 2008’s comprehensive wins over the Jaguars and the Dolphins also appear.
And, of course, there’s coverage of 2012’s Super Bowl XLVII victory when, having beaten the much-fancied Denver Broncos and New England Patriots en route, the Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-31. Dubbed ‘The Harbaugh Bowl’, the Ravens overcame the distraction of a lengthy power-outage during the third quarter to secure the win.
As for the book itself, it measures in at an impressive 12.5 x 15 inches, bound in a burnt sienna cover. Made with an antique-style finish, the cover beautifully contrasts the book’s originally reported black and white content, for the ultimate Baltimore Ravens memorabilia.
