Detroit Tigers Book - Gift Details
Relive the Tigers’ most memorable moments with this Washington Post newspaper book, featuring reprints of reports written at the time.
Coverage begins in October 1907 with the Tigers first American League pennant. They repeated the feat for the next two years, with coverage of all three successes featuring prominently in the book. The exploits of Ty Cobb feature heavily during the period, while reports on the furore surrounding his suspension in 1912 are also included.
Thereafter, the team’s greatest victories are all included, thus creating a fantastic reportage history for any diehard Tigers fan. Included in the coverage are the side’s four World Series wins, in 1935, 1945, 1968 and 1984 – the latter of which starred MVP Alan Trammell at shortstop and meant that with the victory, manager Sparky Anderson became the first man to win the World Series in both leagues.
More recently, the Tigers’ rejuvenation that culminated in 2006’s American League pennant also gets its share of the limelight. Victories over the big-spending New York Yankees, as well as a win over the Athletics meant the Tigers found themselves at the World Series again, only to lose out in five to the St Louis Cardinals. Nevertheless, the book contains detailed coverage.
As for the book itself, it measures in at an impressive 12.5 x 15”, with the choice of two striking editions – both gold-embossed for free. The first is our original burnt sienna cover, made with an antique-style coat; beautifully contrasting the book’s originally reported black and white content.
