Cleveland Browns Book - Gift Details
The Browns’ biggest moments, as reported at the time
Relive the Browns’ most memorable moments with this Washington Post newspaper book, featuring reprints of reports written at the time.
Things begin in December 1946 with Cleveland’s 14-9 All-America victory over the New York Yankees. Under the guidance of the team’s namesake and coach, Paul Brown, the team beat the Yankees again a year later, before beating the 49ers in 1948 and ’49. Thereafter, the team’s greatest victories are all featured, thus creating a fantastic reportage history for any diehard Browns’ fan.
Included in the coverage is the Browns’ continued success through until the mid 1960s. Having become an NFL franchise in 1950, the team’s inaugural season saw them win the league championship, followed by two more in 1954 and ’55. All are included in depth in the book. In ’64, they were at it again, when Gary Collins caught three touchdown passes to earn the MVP award and help the Browns to the NFL Championship with a 27-0 drubbing of the Baltimore Colts.
Fast forward into the largely successful 1980s, and you’ll find reports on the Browns’ five AFC Central championships, as well as their seven NFL Playoff appearances between 1980 and ’89. There’s also coverage of the dark days between 1995 and ’99, when the team suspended operations over the controversial proposal to move the franchise to Baltimore. 2002’s Playoff match then features, along with numerous big-game wins throughout the noughties and 2012’s tide changing win over the Steelers.
As for the book itself, it measures in at an impressive 12.5 x 15”, with the choice of two striking editions – both gold-embossed for free. The first is our original burnt sienna cover, made with an antique-style coat; beautifully contrasting the book’s originally reported black and white content.
